My love for fermentation has now expanded to fermenting garden fresh cabbage into sauerkraut.
We will feature my hand crafted fresh sauerkraut this year at our 18th Annual Oktoberfest street party. Join me on Saturday, September 30th from 4pm to 11pm for a great time for a great cause. This year the gate proceeds will go to Family Services Alliance. Only $10 at the gate. $5 with a Bengal ID and kids under 12 get in free. Friendly doggies on a leash are also welcome.
For Oktoberfest we will have burgers, beer-brats with my fresh sauerkraut, beer & wine for sale. Live music with three great bands; Best by Yesterday will kick off the night at 5pm followed by Kyd-J rocking your socks off from 7:30pm to 9:30pm and Spudmother closing out the night in the Loft from 9pm to 11pm. New this year we will have fun games and even a keg rolling contest you can sign up for.
Check out some pictures of my sauerkraut making endeavor starting with one of my garden fresh cabbages. Kneading in the salt. Packing the cabbage in canning jars topped with a fermentation weight. I cover the jars with coffee filters to keep bugs and contaminants out and still allow the fermentation process to breathe. If people enjoy the fresh sauerkraut I will continue to make this for a regularly featured menu item.
Looking forward to seeing everyone out and about.
